90.5FM is home to WUOG, UGAs own student-run/ student-funded radio station. Currently, WUOG is one of the largest college radio stations in the United States!

One of our favorite programs is called Live in the Lobby— the appropriately named segment featuring live performances from the WUOG studio. You can listen to the radio stream here or simply check out the website

Congratulations, graduates!

Whoa! Neat view of Myers!

yellowchalk:

Myers, my residence hall at UGA, captured at different times of the day. It treated me so much better than I could’ve asked during my first semester at college.

First semester, done!

Our city is so awesome.

It’s a nice 55 degrees right now. It is December, right?

I am so ready for it to be colder… but I am not complaining about how beautiful Athens still is with its leaves…

Singin’ in the Rain tonight at the Tate Theater at 8pm! All movies are $1 for students with valid UGACards who pay activity fees on the Athens campus and $2 for non-students.

Aaaand Garden & Gun’s Athens Spotlight:

Of course there’s more to Athens than music; there’s also that little college called the University of Georgia. The gorgeous redbrick buildings of North Campus spill into the funky downtown, which is mostly blissfully free of chain stores (Starbucks, be damned!). The campus rolls down the hill to the east of Lumpkin Street, becoming more of a mishmash of architecture in South Campus, until the Himalayan-size decks of the 92,000-seat Sanford Stadium loom before you. Ah, the Bulldogs.

Athens’ own dance-rock band Reptar recently performed live at Paste Magazine… a magazine started by UGA graduate Josh Jackson. Watch it here.

I Want to Go Back to UGA - Redcoat Marching Band and Men’s Glee Club, 1955

I want to go back to UGA, back to dear old Athens Town…

It’s July. It’s hot. Summer classes and Orientation are in full swing. Buildings are being repainted and roads repaved… all in anticipation of the start of the new school year in August.

Wherever you are today, Bulldogs, know that Athens is always here for you— waiting for you to come back home!

Did you know…

The UGA Chapel on North Campus houses The Interior of St. Peter’s Rome (George Cooke, 1847)—  a 17’ x 23.5’ painting that, at the time of its installation, was believed to be the largest oil painting in the world.

The painting was completed in 1847 by George Cooke for architect and industrialist Daniel Pratt who was building an addition to his home in Prattville, Ala., and wanted the painting to fill one end of it. The gallery became infested with dry rot and had to be torn down to save the house. The painting was given to the university in 1867 because of Pratt’s friendship with the chancellor and at the request of the artist’s widow who eventually married an Athenian. The Chapel was extended to accommodate the enormous work of art. [more]
